Anagama Fired Stoneware |
ARTISTIC STATEMENT I am interested in taking the genre of wood firing as I have learned it in Japan, and pushing it in new directions; to be concious of material and form as they relate to the effects of loading and firing.
Recently, I have been experimenting with the concept of tension ie: the archaic quality of organic clay and crusty, rough textures of the firing, in tension with forms that may be faced, sharp edged and geometric.
The challenge is to have the tension strengthen those different aspects of the work so that they 'play off' each other, rather than compete with each other.
